I’m Alicia, The Haven Nature Play & Education facilitator. I am a trained Primary teacher with an extensive background in Special Education and working with children with additional needs and trauma backgrounds.
My practices in The Haven are based on alternative education and look at the child as a whole. Children have an active part in creating the environment of our programs, their interests and needs are heard and considered in the direction of our sessions together. I’m passionate about creating a safe space for big feelings and a supportive and collaborative environment for children and families.
Something special about how I practice is that it doesn’t fit into a mold. I am a life-long student, constantly learning through my experience in The Haven and outside to broaden my knowledge and to continue to grow as a facilitator and a leader in this space. And I change as I grow. As many other practices refer to a theory or philosophy that honours tradition, at The Haven we are ever-evolving. We move, flow and learn.
We build upon previous experiences.
We learn from each other.
And we feel into what is naturally occurring in our group, the seasons and flow with the cyclical nature around us.
